This model of a business class was produced from 1975 to 1984. The Renault 20 car represented the most technically perfect and expensive car of the company in that time.

In 1975 the presentation of the serial Renault 20 model took place at the showroom in Paris. For creation of model the same platform as Renault 30 had was used. The car was released in a body of a five-door hatchback.

The engine of the car is placed in the front part, and the drive gear was carried out on front couple of wheels. Traditionally for that time the model was equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes.

The car possessed rectangular head lights, mouldings on the face of a body and a squared radiator grill. The volume of a rear compartment made 410 liters. The model differed in comfortableness because of spacious interior and the extremely successful design of seats.

The producer managed to achieve fine roadability of the car and excellent stability on the road. The car possessed the strengthened protection against side crashes and the special front zone intended for blanking out of blow.

Renault 20 was widely used in sports competitions. Specially developed four-wheel drive version in 1982 brought a victory on rally Paris — Dakar to the team.

In 1978 the producer equipped the car with a new dashboard, and in a year — a rear fog light and seat belts for rear seats.

In 1980 the car received absolutely new interior. The most considerable changes were in the front panel design and configuration. Some versions were equipped with radiator grill with the chrome plated elements.

In Romania limited release of model for needs of the highest public institutions was adjusted. The car was produced by the license and was called Dacia 2000. The car didn't go on free sale.
