Lancia Zeta
Lancia Zeta minivan was part of the joint French-Italian Eurovan project, along with Citroën Evasion, Peugeot 806 and Fiat Ulysse. Production of the model was organized from 1994 to 2002.
History of Lancia Zeta creation
In the early nineties, Fiat Group management decided that the Italian automobile companies are ready to occupy a new segment of the market and decided to produce minivans. It needed serious monetary investments to start the project from scratch, and Fiat Group and PSA Peugeot Citroën combined efforts for cut costs. So the Eurovan project appeared and resulted in producing of four identical minivans under different brands (Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat and Lancia) that was unveiled in April, 1994 at the motor show in Turin.
All four cars were similar externally: almost square body shape, narrow horizontal head lights and square back lights with slightly smoothed angles. It was possible to identify Lancia Zeta by the branded radiator grille only. Minivans by Eurovan had identical mechanics, but differed in targeted consumer. Lancia Zeta cars had the highest level of equipment and interior trimming, but at the same time did not offer buyers any modifications, unlike other participants of the project. Originally Italian minivan existed only in one, rich, package (front and rear power windows, athermal Solar Control glass, modern air conditioner, alcantara upholstery, special cast discs, and fog lights) and was equipped with the most powerful engine. The only choice that motorists could make was a six-seater or seven-seater variants of passenger compartment.
In eight years of existence in the market, the model never got a restyling, having received only minor improvements for all the time. Since 1997 automatic air conditioners, more suitable for top models than manually operated climate control installations, were installed in minivans. At the same time buyers got a small choice of engines and package of the car (LS and LX).
In 2002 production of Lancia Zeta stopped because of the release of the Lancia Phedra model.
