Lancia Ypsilon

Lancia Ypsilon is a compact car, it is presented by a three-door (first generation) and a five-door (second generation) hatchback. It is produced since 2003. It is the best sold Lancia model (about 60 000 copies a year).

Lancia Ypsilon I generation

Creators of an elegant Lancia Ypsilon three-door hatchback - Marco Tencone and Alberto Dilillo - had mostly young audience in mind. Also the stylish car had great success with women.

The nose of the car stood out because of a large radiator grille and teardrop headlights. There was a transversal rib from uncolored plastic on the bumper (painted in colour of the body), under which there was a mesh air inlet and fog lights. Specific design of the car body sides strengthened the overall dynamic impression made by the vehicle. Rear headlights were grouped upright.

The interior of Lancia Ypsilon differed in elaborated assembling. Depending on a package, for trimming of the passenger compartment AIRtex fabrics, alcantara or leather were used. All instruments, classical in design, were grouped in the center of the front panel that allowed for storage space next to the driver and the forward passenger seats.

Lancia Ypsilon I generation restyling

In the autumn of 2006, Lancia Ypsilon of the first generation was changed. The radiator grille became even larger, bumpers — more spherical, the air inlet was increased in sizes. There were new discs, and also the colour palette of body painting was extended. The back optics had a distinguishing feature: rear lights seemed to be glazed with ice.

Lancia Ypsilon II generation

Release of the second generation of Lancia Ypsilon was planned for 2009, but the financial crisis affected plans of the company. The presentation of the model took place at the Geneva motor show in 2011.

The Hatchback got five doors that, however, was not reflected in its sizes: length of Lancia Ypsilon was increased by only 30 mm. However the innovation was not evident: handles of back doors were carefully hidden in window racks. Lines of the body were still soft and spherical, however hatchback had sports lines in its shape. Thus producers tried to get rid of stereotypic perception of Lancia Ypsilon as a women’s car. The new generation of Lancia Ypsilon had a different radiator grille: the vertical chrome bars were replaced by horizontal ones, the longitudinal edge, dividing the grille into two parts, disappeared. Change was caused by cooperation with the Chrysler Company: it was decided to bring the American motifs in the corporate style of the Italian company.

Lancia Ypsilon II generation restyling

At the Frankfurt motor show in 2015 restyling of the second generation of the model was presented. Cars had new bumpers, headlights and a radiator grille, the colour palette of body painting was extended. Besides new materials of trimming of passenger compartment, advanced graphics of the instruments and the redesigned central tunnel are notable.

Lancia Ypsilon of the second generation was on sale in Great Britain, Ireland and Japan as Chrysler Ypsilon.
