Info on LANCIA THEMA model - the right selection of spare parts
Lancia Thema
The Lancia Thema model was produced from 1984 to 1994 and was presented in a sedan and station wagon bodies. In 2011 a sort of revival of Lancia Thema took place: under this name the Chrysler 300C car appeared in the European market.
Lancia Thema I generation
Work on the car, which had to replace the Lancia Gamma model and compete with luxury European cars (such as Audi 100, BMW 5 and Mercedes E W124), was conducted since 1980. The presentation of the new model took place in November, 1984, at the motor show in Turin. Giorgetto Giugiaro, the head of the Italdesign company, was engaged in designing of this sedan. The car was considered as one of the most spacious and comfortable at the time. From 1986 to 1994 there was production of Lancia Thema station wagons designed by other well-known Italian firm Pininfarina.
Lancia Thema was part of the Tipo Quattro project providing creation of four high-class cars on a single platform, therefore it had much in common with other participants of the project — Fiat Croma, Saab 9000 and Alfa Romeo 164. New methods of welding and processing sheet metal applied assembling of Lancia Thema cars, made doors fit tighter to the body, foregoing such unaesthetic details as rain gutters, and also to achieve a quite good drag coefficient (0,32). Only 14-inch disks, too small in comparison with the body, contrasted with appearance of the car.
In the passenger compartment high-quality materials were used: velour, alcantara, and also, for the first time in the history of automotive industry, leather of manual manufacture from elite furniture firm Poltrona Frau. Lancia Thema cars had a rich basic package: both front and back seats had the heating and electric adjustment, in an armrest there was automobile phone, and the automatic air conditioner had two options of execution.
Lancia Thema I generation restylings
In September, 1988, at the Paris motor show it was possible to see the updated Lancia Thema. Front headlights of the car were split diagonally: in the brown lower block, direction indicators were located. Internal changes also were insignificant: wood was used for dashboard finish and door panelling.
In 1992 at the motor show in Paris the second restyling of the Italian model was presented. The new design of the front bumper allowed the car to avoid damages from collisions at speeds up to 8 km/h. The spoiler was removed from the boot lid; external mirrors got only one mount. The serial package had electrochromic rear-view mirrors, tinted Solextra glass and SpeedLimit speed monitoring system.
For management of Fiat Group and also for wealthy buyers, luxury Lancia Thema limousines were custom-made. In total, 24 copies were produced.
