Lancia Prisma
Lancia Prisma model was presented in a sedan body only and it was produced by the Italian company from 1982 to 1989. More than 350 thousand copies were released during this time.
Lancia Prisma I generation
Lancia Prisma sedan is one more “child” of the famous automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Production started in December, 1982, at the beginning of 1983 sales began in Italy, and only several months later the international debut of the model at the motor show in Geneva took place.
Lancia Prisma cars had a classical, austere exterior, so they were popular with consumers. The hardware of new sedans also was above the mark: a speedometer, tachometer, voltmeter, tyre wear indicator, digital clock and an adjustable steering wheel, among other things, were included in the basic package. All instruments were conveniently grouped on the front panel, in the central console the radio and the control unit of the air conditioner were placed. There were two glove boxes and a small lockable storage space for small objects in the passenger compartment of Lancia Prisma. Power windows, light-alloy discs, on-board computer, roof hatch, the modern air conditioner, and also the headlights adjuster were offered as padding options. A capacious luggage compartment (410 l) could be increased due to the folding of back seats.
Lancia Prisma I generation restyling
At the 1986 Turin auto show the presentation of the updated Lancia Prisma took place. The cars got a more modern look thanks to a new radiator grille, bonnet, bumpers and optics. Also the interior was updated: the dashboard received fresh design, the shape of seats changed, quality of materials of trimming became better. The ergonomics of the driver's seat was highly praised by the specialized authoritative magazine "Quattroruote" for an optimal set of adjustments of the steering wheel and seats, easy-to-read instrument graphics and elaborated arrangement of basic unit control elements.
In 1988 there was luxury Lancia Prisma LX in the market, easily recognizable thanks to exclusive body painting (platinum, grey, black). Also the upholstery of seats was original and combined checkered and monochromatic fabric. The glass in all Lancia Prisma LX windows blocked infrared radiation. The same year an exclusive Lancia Prisma car was designed for the president of the Fiat company Gianni Agnelli, it was equipped with the 200 h.p. engine and had the maximum package. The exterior of the unique Lancia Prisma, painted in common blue colour, did not stand out in the traffic, so Agnelli used the car for private trips, without drawing attention to himself.
In 1989 production of Lancia Prisma was stopped because of the release of a new model of the producer — Lancia Dedra.
