Contact a service station for replacement of the timing belt.
It is recommended to replace all other timing mechanism elements (pulleys, rollers and tensioners, and, if necessary, also the cooling system pump) together with installation of a new timing belt on the VW PASSAT Variant (3B6) car. During demounting and mounting of the timing belt, pulleys and rollers, it is very important to use appropriate tools. It is prohibited to rotate the engine shafts after belt demounting. This can become the cause of valves damaging. But in case if engine cranking is necessary, force should be applied to the crankshaft, but in no case to the camshaft.
