Rear lights the FIAT PUNTO (188) – information on part operation, installation, diagnostics, and service intervals
Before replacing a rear light assembly on the FIAT PUNTO (188) vehicle, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery: any manipulations associated with electricity require utmost caution.
Remove everything unnecessary from the trunk in order not to impede access to the fasteners of the rear light cluster.
Check location of the rear lights in the FIAT PUNTO (188) vehicle in the technical documentation. If necessary, remove or pry off the trunk trim panel, or open the service hole cover to reach fasteners of the component.
During installation of new components, check the fasteners. Deformed, rusty or broken components should be replaced. Otherwise, the tail light will not be reliably secured.
When replacing a rear light assembly on the FIAT PUNTO (188) vehicle, it is recommended to replace the gasket. Using an old sealing element does not guarantee tightness of the rear light cluster. Accumulation of condensate inside the assembly affects quality of lighting, causes oxidation of the contacts, and reduces the service life of the reflector.
When releasing the rear light assembly from retainers, do not apply excessive force, so as not to break them.
Before installation of a new component, clean dirt and moisture from its seat on the car body, as they may damage the housing of the rear light cluster.
Before connecting the wires plug to the new rear light, treat connectors with a special product for electrical contacts. This will prevent their oxidation and ensure long reliable operation of the lights.
AUTODOC recommends doing the following after rear light assemblies of the FIAT PUNTO (188) vehicle have been replaced:
Turn ignition on, move the turn indicator switch up or down, holding it in the intermediate position. Check if turn indicators are activated.
Set the FIAT PUNTO (188) side lights switch to the corresponding position, and check whether the lights work.
Turn ignition on, then press the brake pedal. Check if brake lights are activated.
Turn on ignition, engage the parking brake of the FIAT PUNTO (188) vehicle, and engage reverse gear. Check if reverse lights are activated.
